Recycling Household Rubbish and White Goods in Brisbane, Queensland

You would be surprised to find out just how much of our rubbish can be recycled these days. Read on to find out how to recycle household rubbish in Brisbane, Queensland.  If you have whitegoods to be removed in Brisbane call us for a free estimate.

Did you know that white goods, for example, large kitchen appliances, are often recyclable? In many instances, they can be repaired, sent for reuse by second-hand dealers, or the metal can be recovered at metal recycling stations where it is shredded.   Most charities can’t accept white goods for recycling due to safety testing requirements.

White goods can include:

  • Refrigerators
  • Microwave ovens
  • Air conditioning units
  • Washing machines
  • Ovens/cooktops
  • Dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • Deep freezers

If you need white goods recycling in Brisbane, get in touch with us. We know that white goods are often left to accumulate in the garage because they are bulky, heavy, and hard to transport. This is where we come in! We will come to your house and pick up your white goods and household rubbish for you to save you the hassle. Where possible, we will ensure that we recycle as much as possible and dispose of items in an eco-friendly manner at approved Brisbane City Council recycling stations.

What Are the Benefits of Recycling White Goods?

White goods contain significant amounts of non-renewable, but often valuable, materials including metals, plastics, gases (refrigerants) and insulation materials.

The benefits of recycling white goods are twofold. Firstly, recycling reusable materials gives these items a second life and keeps them alive in the economy, reducing the demand for new materials to be created. Secondly, the recycling process prevents toxic chemicals often present in white goods (such as flame retardants) from entering the environment and polluting soils or waterways.

What About Computers and E-waste?

You may be surprised to know that even home computers and electronic waste can, in many instances, be recycled. Even if the whole, complete product cannot be recycled, many individual computer components can be recycled. So instead of just throwing it in the bin, call us for an estimate and to book a pickup. We can dispose of your old computers and e-waste using approved electrical and computer recycling depots. Feel good knowing that you are doing your part for the planet and keeping stuff out of the landfill.

Brisbane and Queensland White Goods Removal

If you’ve avoided buying whitegoods that connect to the Internet for fear of them downloading music and buying stuff on eBay, I have some bad news.  From the moment you plugged in your fridge, freezer, washing machine, dryer, oven or dishwasher, it’s been communicating with your other whitegoods. But they’re not talking about the latest album they downloaded, or the eBay item they just put a bid on.  Instead, they’re working out the most inconvenient time to break down.  And it’s a fine line. If they break down too early, they’ll probably be repaired under warranty. And if they leave it too late, they may be replaced before they have the chance to destroy your clothes and spoil your food.

Your fridge and freezer will probably go first, because they know how much you love food. Right now you might not think it’s such a bad thing. Your house feels pretty much like a freezer anyway, so you could just leave everything out on the kitchen bench.

How to Make Money from Spring Cleaning and Garage Sales

With summer just around the corner, in Queensland we are heading into garage sale season. There’s simply no better time to clear out all the junk and rubbish lurking around the house or in the garage! However, before you toss all those unwanted items straight into the trash, check out our top tips for how to make a few extra dollars for Christmas fun. It’s easy to make some cash from items you throw out during your spring clean – a garage sale is just one suggestion.

1. Trade in DVDs, books and computer games
DVDs, books and computer games are popular commodities and the options for selling them online and in person are immense. Second hand bookshops will often buy books off you and either give you cash or store credit in return. Websites like bookon.com.au or fishpond.com.au can also be good places to sell books including textbooks. Dixons Recycled will buy CD’s, DVD’s, Blurays and LP’s and even cassettes, posters, music books, and collectables if they are of some value. Ziffit.com is another option for selling books, CD’s, and DVD’s, and they also allow you to sell your computer games.

2. Resell Name Brand Clothing
If you have name brand clothing that is still in good condition, bundle it up and sell it to specialty clothing shops. These stores will often also buy clothing-related accessories like belts, shoes, hats, handbags and wallets. So, if your wardrobe is full of last season designer wear or trendy clothes, you could make a big chunk of change.

3. Make Money from Scrap Metal
If you have old copper pipes lying around, consider trading them to a scrap metal merchant. The most profitable scrap metals include copper, aluminium, brass, stainless steel, iron, lead, gold and silver. At the time of writing you can make anywhere between $4 and $6 per kilo of copper, or $0.20 to $1.50 per kilo of aluminium depending on the quality of the metal and the dealer you sell it to.

4. Sell Remaining Items at Garage Sale
Hosting a garage sale is a convenient way to sell anything you no longer need, including bric-a-brac, household furniture, sporting goods and much more. You can advertise on Craigslist, Gumtree and in the local newspaper and spread the word to friends and family. It is possible to make a few hundred dollars simply by giving up one day at the weekend to host a garage sale.

5. Let Us Get Rid of Anything That Doesn’t Sell for You
What do you do with leftover junk that needs to be removed? Whatever is left over, simply give us a call and we will come collect and dispose of it. We offer junk removals in Brisbane, and are proudly locally owned, and not part of a franchise. You only pay for the volume loaded and we recycle as much as possible.

Shop Fitout Clearout

You’re about to open the door to your new premises.

Right now you’re struggling to open the doors for yourself. You’re so excited your hand is shaking, making it hard to get the key in the lock. Mind you, that could also be due to the cramp in your hand from signing so much paperwork for the shop lease.

You eventually unlock the door, and with a bit of a shove manage to swing it open. There’s power, so you turn on the lights and…

… it’s perfect.

It’s a nice building in a great location, and the fitout crew worked sheer magic so you could open to the public on time with everything ready to go.

But that wasn’t the story a few days ago.  OK so you didn’t expect it to be in pristine condition.  After all, you’re not the first business to use this space. But it looked like the previous tenants had spent their last few hours practising their telekinesis.

There was broken furniture all over the floor, along with a few cupboard doors. The cupboards themselves were hanging by a couple of nails, as if it took a few pulls to realise they weren’t portable.

There was even a sink in the middle of the floor, which either came from the kitchen area of was part of a very interesting water feature.

Luckily the shop fitters knew their stuff.  The place was gutted and all the junk removed—quickly and efficiently ready for the new shop fitting.

And that’s where the team at Brizzy Rubbish Removals were able to help. Experts at removing rubbish for shop fitouts, athey knew how important it is to get it done quickly and efficiently.  Just give them a call and they’ll collect all the junk and take it away. And you won’t need to life a finger.

Which is probably just as well, because you really should rest that hand.
